چکیده

A new code, named MAP, is written in FORTRAN language for magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) calculation with the adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) and Message Passing Interface (MPI) parallelization. There are several optional numerical schemes for computing the MHD part, namely, modified Mac Cormack Scheme (MMC), Lax-Fridrichs scheme (LF) and weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme. All of them are second order, twostep, component-wise schemes for hyperbolic conservative equations. The total variation diminishing (TVD) limiters and approximate Riemann solvers are also equipped. A high resolution can be achieved by the hierarchical block-structured AMR mesh. We use the extended generalized Lagrange multiplier (EGLM) MHD equations to reduce the non-divergence free error produced by the scheme in the magnetic induction equation. The numerical algorithms for the non-ideal terms, e.g., the resistivity and the thermal conduction, are also equipped in the MAP code. The details of the AMR and MPI algorithms are described in the paper.

Adaptive Mesh Refinement in Computational Astrophysics – Methods and Applications

The advent of robust, reliable and accurate higher order Godunov schemes for many of the systems of equations of interest in computational astrophysics has made it important to understand how to solve them in multi-scale fashion. This is so because the physics associated with astrophysical phenomena evolves in multi-scale fashion and we wish to arrive at a multi-scale simulational capability to...

A High Order Godunov Scheme with Constrained Transport and Adaptive Mesh Refinement for Astrophysical MHD

Aims. In this paper, we present a new method to perform numerical simulations of astrophysical MHD flows using the Adaptive Mesh Refinement framework and Constrained Transport. Methods. The algorithm is based on a previous work in which the MUSCL–Hancock scheme was used to evolve the induction equation. In this paper, we detail the extension of this scheme to the full MHD equations and discuss ...

Multiscale Modeling of Heliospheric Plasmas

A new MHD code has been developed for massively parallel computers using adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) and a new 8-wave Riemann solver. The code was implemented on a Cray T3D massively parallel computer with 512 PEs. In the first application, which modeled the expansion of the solar wind from the solar surface, the code achieved 13 GFLOPS.

A Stable, Accurate Methodology for High Mach Number, Strong Magnetic Field Mhd Turbulence with Adaptive Mesh Refinement: Resolution and Refinement Studies

Performing a stable, long duration simulation of driven MHD turbulence with a high thermal Mach number and a strong initial magnetic field is a challenge to high-order Godunov ideal MHD schemes because of the difficulty in guaranteeing positivity of the density and pressure. We have implemented a robust combination of reconstruction schemes, Riemann solvers, limiters, and Constrained Transport ...

Parallel, Adaptive-Mesh-Refinement MHD for Global Space-Weather Simulations

The first part of this paper reviews some issues representing major computational challenges for global MHD models of the space environment. These issues include mathematical formulation and discretization of the governing equations that ensure the proper jump conditions and propagation speeds, regions of relativistic Alfvén speed, and controlling the divergence of the magnetic field. The secon...
